Y2K - The Ten Virgins (LG19)

Mat 25:1  “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while *the bridegroom was delayed*, they all slumbered and slept."

A virgin is one who prepares herself to marry the Lord and to obey and serve Him faithfully according to His commands, words, teachings, will, etc.

2Cor 11:2  For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

2Tim 4:8  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

These 10 virgins love the Lord with all their hearts. They love His appearing because they want to be with Him as soon as possible. So all these virgins desire, hope and believe that Jesus will be back in Y2K.

But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept."

After Y2K, no one dared to preach end time events anymore (slumbered and slept) for they were ignorant of end times, except for the few who knew that the fourth Seal (WW3) must come first before Rapture.

Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Oil is used for anointing and it represents the Holy Spirit. The five foolish virgins loved the Lord and will obey all His words and commands. They are prepared to give up all and serve the Lord faithfully with the gifts and empowering of the Holy Spirit in churches, missions, charitable homes, etc. These are really godly and faithful servants of God serving in their own comfort zones.

Gal 5:16-17  I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

But the wise virgins wanted to do His will (no matter where, why and what it is) and to be led by the Spirit of God into the baptism with fire. When we walk in the Spirit we find that we are to do the things that we do not naturally desire, like nor want (flesh)

2Cor 11:26-27  in journeys often, in perils of waters,... in perils in the wilderness,..in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Filthy hard bamboo floor as bed, tasteless and dirty tapioca as food, travelling in dusty and hot or slippery and dangerous muddy tracks, stranded often with broken down vehicles, chased by angry elephants, encountered leeches, snakes and wild animals, suffered hunger, cold, scorching heat, muscles pains, etc.

Gal 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me._

With 37 OA worship services in the jungle every week, our late Pr Siew, suffering from acute arthritis for the past ten years and with failing eye sight and hearing, still drove into the jungle. With great pains and often with dangers, he ensured that our OA brethren can worship the Lord weekly. Obediently, he ran a good race and had crucified his flesh by walking in the Spirit for His glory. All of us will miss him very much.
